CASHMERE

Cashmere is the NOBLEST of fibres, of unparalleled softness and beauty. A PRECIOUS and fine material, its enveloping softness and unique characteristics produce unique garments. We at Masserano have cashmere in our name and in our SOUL, and we offer it to our customers together with our experience in its processing.

The fibre

The precious cashmere fibre is the undercoat of the Hircus goat that lives on the Asian plateaus. China, Mongolia, Afghanistan and Iran are its main suppliers, since only a small part comes from the Indian Cashmere region, from which it derives its name.
The hair is collected during the spring moulting between the month of May and the beginning of summer when the animals naturally lose their hair. The undercoat is gathered by hand or with a comb. Each goat makes an average of 0.1 to 0.3 kg each year, making this fibre rare and precious.
Masserano Cashmere only processes fibres from China and Mongolia that are dyed, spun and woven in Italy creating items unique in colours and styles.

sustainabilty

All Masserano Cashmere garments are created to last over time using only natural and recyclable raw materials. We control the production process in all its parts, from the choice of textile fibres to the shipment of the finished item, always paying attention to the respect for our environment.
We only select suppliers who guarantee the same attention to the protection of the planet and of future generations, encouraging the use of renewable energies and certified chemical agents, and the recycling of water and consumables.
It has always been in our genes to minimize waste from processing, the upcycling of waste products and the recycling of inventories. The growing awareness towards sustainability has led us to recently introduce the use of recycled and organic yarns and to rethink corporate packaging in green terms, confirming our commitment to the territory.

Biella, the district of noble fibres

The textile district of Biella is one of the oldest industrial districts in the world, a global reference point in the textile-clothing sector for the production of yarns and fabrics in wool and noble fibres such as cashmere, vicuna, alpaca, mohair, etc…
The development over the centuries of the Biella district was favoured by the particular characteristics of the territory and by the many waterways useful to wash and process wool and to produce hydroelectric energy.
Masserano Cashmere is fully integrated into the district of Biella and relies on the skilled hands of weavers, spinners and laboratories for the production of its fine items, bringing the creativity and “know-how” of Biella all over the world.

How to care

We recommend dry cleaning knitwear, but it is however possible to hand wash it with mild detergents and avoiding the spin cycle. Hand wash in cold or lukewarm water, without soaking and using only a very small amount of mild detergent. After rinsing the item with plenty of running water, do not wring it but gently dab it between two towels to remove most of the moisture, and finally smooth it on a flat surface avoiding direct sunlight. We recommend never to hang the cashmere product to dry to avoid the risk of deforming it.
Characteristically cashmere does not require the use of a fabric softener, on the contrary, repeated washes make it increasingly softer and more pleasant to the touch.
For all Masserano Cashmere woven items, on the other hand, it is mandatory to dry clean at specialized dry cleaners. Once the garment has been washed, it must be stored in a case that contains a light moth repellent.
Following these simple tips, you will enjoy your cashmere throws, pillows, nightgowns and blankets for many years to come.
